The date when Christmas introduced in Japan
It was 16 centuries when the Christmas was introduced to Japan at the very first time by Jesuit missionaries.
Francisco de Jasso organized celebration of the birthday of Jesus Christ at Yamaguchi prefecture in 1552.
At the time, Japanese general (shogun), Ieyasu Tokugawa, forbit the Christian religion, so that the celebration performed in silently.
How Christmas becomes one of fancy winter event all over Japan
In 1904, Meijiya has opened their international supermarket in Ginza, Tokyo.ย They performed Christmas sales as one of winter event, so that people start acknowledging the Christmas.
Although, English and western culture are forbidden during World War โ ก.ย During this period, celebrating Christmas becomes not popular unfortunately.
As a matter of fact, it is said that Christmas becomes nationwide event from 1950 when Fujiya has introduced and sold “Typical Japanese style of Christmas cake”.
You can visit Meijiya and Fujiya which introduced Christmas for many Japanese people as a pioneer.ย Nowadays, Japan has their own style of Christmas day how to celebrate.
