How to celebrate for “Children’s Day”?

On May 5th, families with boys raise “Koi-nobori (carp shaped banner)” in outside the house, wishing their success in their lives.

They also display  “Kabuto  (samurai warrior helmet)” or “Gogatsu-ningyo (armed samurai doll)” at home, because they are believed to be symbols of strength and vitality.

We eat traditional foods such as “Kashiwa-mochi (mochi rice cakes with red bean paste fillings wrapped in oak leaves) ” and “Chimaki (rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves)”

“Kashiwa-mochi” is believed as symbol of prosperity of descendants, because oak leaves don’t fall off from the tree until new sprouts come out in spring.  It represents continuous cycle of life.

“Chimaki” is believed as a protective charm.

I wish you the happiness and healthy growth on this girls special day💓 By Rie’s Kitchen
