Did you know that there are mainly two kinds of Japanese food in Japan?

When you are in Japan, you would be amazed by a lot of variation of Japanese food.   I think we can say that there are mainly two kinds of Japanese food.

Type“A”:Formal Washoku

“Washoku” is traditional Japanese cuisine, which was registered as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2013.  Washoku is registered the 5th in the World, and the rest of the four registered are French, Mexican, Mediterranean, and Turkish cuisines.

Washoku is relate to Kaiseki Cuisine (Traditional multi-course banquet meal), Buddhist Vegetarian Cuisine and Annual event, and characterized by the usage of various seasonal fresh foods, and is famous as very healthy food due to a low-calorie, nutritious and well-balanced diet.

Type”B”:  Informal Washoku

There are a lot of “Informal Washoku”, which were originally coming from around the world and become popular with modification to suite Japanese tastes.  “Sukiyaki”, “Tempura”, “Rice Currey”, and “Noodle” etc are the food with non-Japanese origins.

For my blog “Rie’s Kitchen”, it is more than happy to introduce those two fabulous Japanese cuisines as “Japanese Food” to many people around the world.
